Wayne Seyb

Wayne Seyb was born in Temuka, South Canterbury in 1961 and went to the Otago Polytechnic School of Art in Dunedin in 1980. In 1981 he formed "Artattack", transforming his flat into a place to show paintings and sculptures with the help of a group of friends.

In 1983 he moved to Ravensbourne – a harbour suburb of Dunedin under the dark Otago hills. In 1990 he bought a house at Karitane - a small village north of Dunedin. He painted the landscape as a way of getting to know it.

In 1993 he had an exhibition in Munich, which enabled him to study paintings that he had seen in books. This was the start of further overseas trips - in 1997 to the Stedelijk, Rijksmuseum and Vincent van Gogh Museums in Amsterdam as well as the Tate and National Art Gallery in London, and in 2004 to Naples, Pompeii and Florence.

Since 1999 Wayne has lived in inner-city Christchurch.
